Penstemon ‘Drinkstone Red’, the free plant at Helmingham Plant Fair May 2018.
A good red, hardy Penstemon that flowers for a long period over the summer with long tubular flowers, medium green foliage and an elegant appearance. It should be kept dead-headed to encourage flowering and cut back in spring to new shoots coming from the base. Plant it in full sun or good sunlight. It will grow to nearly a metre by mid-summer.
This cultivar was bred in Suffolk by nurseryman Fred Barcock at his Drinkstone Nursery. It is currently available from only four suppliers in the RHS Plantfinder.
The material for this plant came from the Suffolk Punch Garden at Hollesley where there is a National Plant Collection of plants bred and introduced in Suffolk.
